Jim is an applied coastal scientist who formed the first Coastcare groups in NZ and has worked on the design and implementation of nature-based coastal solutions and coastal restoration for over 40 years including (literally) 100s of individual projects. He is also an expert on coastal processes and coastal hazards and has been involved in the assessment and management of coastal hazards around NZ, including associated adaptation strategies, for over 35 years. Jim also has extensive involvement with the design and management of many issues and restoration projects in NZ estuaries.
Pre-conference workshop: Nature-based solutions for coastal communities
Tuesday 11 March 2025 : This free workshop will focus on east coast North Island beaches – including the key natural coastal processes at work and the key role of nature-based approaches and coastal restoration in protecting these beaches and coastal communities.
